Giving You the Best

Jazz Spots

People often ask me about some good places in DC to go to hear live jazz.  Here are some of my favorites:

Twin's Lounge

The main location is on U street. Its a small place, as are most jazz clubs. Shows there are great. Top local and international artists fight to get on the schedule.  Sunday is Jam Session night which is also a good show.  Ethiopian and American fare is sure to please.

Westminster Church Jazz Night

This is probably one of the best kept jazz secrets of D.C. This is a very low-key weekly event in terms of publicity, but its almost always a great show. The food is top notch soul-food. This is a very inexpensive show, and gives you the most for your money.

The New Vegas Lounge

Lots of fun!!!  If youre looking for authentic blues music, this is the place to go.  This place features the super hot, Out of Town Blues Band every Friday and Saturday.  It's always a top notch show, and the dance floor stays packed!!

HR-57 Jazz Club

Usually a good show. Not that expensive. Mid-aged crowd. Very informal place. It's hit or miss on Tuesday jam nights. Food is not good at all. Eat before or after you go.

Here are some of the more formal/expensive spots that I go to every once in a while:
   Blues Alley
   Bohemian Caverns

Also, keep your eyes open in the summer for a lot of big acts that come through town for free festivals and performances.

People also ask me for suggestions on good CD's to purchase for their personal collections or as gifts for others.

Gospel Jazz

Kirk Whalum: Gospel According to Jazz I, II, & III, Hymns in the Garden

Brass Band

Dirty Dozen  Brass Band

Rebirth Brass Band

There's nothing like being in the right place at the right time, with the wrong ring-tone.  Here's a few good ringtones that I recommend.
